GENERAL RULES 2008-2009 YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITIONELIGIBILITY
Open to musicians of high school and college age (16-23). Applicant must be a resident OR student in Blair, Bedford,
Cambria, Indiana, Somerset, or Westmoreland
counties.
JSO musicians meeting age and student criteria are eligible. Previous winners are not eligible. Maestro Jaray will make final decisions on eligibility.
JUDGES
Maestro Jaray and participating judges will select and
declare the winners.
All decisions of the judges will be final. The judges may declare no winner if, in their opinion,
sufficiently high standards of performance have
not been met.
PROCEDURE
Applicant should prepare a concert or other work written
with orchestral accompaniment and not less than
twenty minutes in length. Performance of an excerpt from each section or movement
of the work will be required at the audition. Audition will be limited to a maximum of thirty minutes. The applicant must provide audition accompanist. If necessary, only woodwind and brass players will be
permitted to use music at the audition. Applicant must bring to the audition a separate copy of the
work to be performed for the judges. The work must
be available from a major publishing company for use
by the full Orchestra in performance. auditions are closed - no friends or family will be permitted
to observe the auditions.
PRIZES
FIRST PRIZE: $500 and a performance with the JSO on
April 4, 2009 in Johnstown.
SECOND PRIZE: $300
THIRD PRIZE: $200
FEE
A $35 non-refundable registration fee must accompany all applications.
DEADLINE
Applications, registration fee made payable to the JSO, and references must be returned to the JSO office, postmarked by October 20, 2008.
Auditions will be held on November 16, 2008 at the Pasqueri Performing Arts Center. You will be notified of the til of your audition the first week of November.
