The Next exciting JSO concert: " A New Musical World"
November 12, 7:30 pm
Pasquerilla Performing Arts center

Our new era continues with Antonin Dvorak's perennial favorite, his Symphony No. 9, "From the New World".  This beloved symphony celebrates the American musical heritage that Dvorak experienced when he lived in this country in the 1890's while simultaneously evoking his own nostalgia for his homeland.  It is a work that helped to set the stage for many great American composers, including William Grant Still, whose Poem for Orchestra we present as an example of what Dvorak helped to encourage.  Johannes Brahms was Dvorak's greatest champion, and we open with Brahms's Variations on a Theme of Haydn, the brilliant set of variations that set the stage for his own towering symphonies.
