Education and Outreach
The Johnstown Symphony Orchestra is committed to providing high quality classical orchestral performances to the people of Johnstown and surrounding region. Each year, the JSO reaches out to children and families through our Education and Outreach Activities. For more information about any of the events listed below, contact the JSO office at 814-535-6738 or email us at info@johnstownsymphony.org. Johnstown Symphony Youth Orchestra A fantastic opportunity for talented young musicians to gain priceless orchestral experience, under the direction of JSO Music Director, Istvan Jaray. Rehearsals and concerts are conducted by professional standards, helping these students grow their skill levels. Children's Choruses There are two children’s choruses. The Apprentice Choir is for students in Kindergarten through grade four and Inclined to Sing is for students in grades five through nine. Each chorus will build music reading and singing skills by rehearsing weekly and performing in concert at least twice each season. Young Peoples Concerts Each year, the JSO presents at least two free concerts for area fifth grade students. The concerts introduce these young audiences to the instruments and sounds of the orchestra. Teachers interested in bringing students to these concerts should call the JSO office early in the school year. Outreach Concerts In Your Neighborhood The JSO is committed to reaching out to the communities surrounding Johnstown. Mother’s Day 2007 will mark the seventh year in a row that the JSO has presented a concert in Somerset with the support of that community’s businesses and individuals. A concert in Ebensburg helped commemorate Cambria County’s Bi-centennial celebration. The grand opening of the former JSO home at Cochran Auditorium was dedicated with a JSO concert. If you’d like to have us come to your community, contact the JSO Office. Keep your ears open for information on where we’ll be next!
