Changing lives through the power of music

Music is an art that brings out the creativity of an individual from the youngest child to the oldest adult.  The Share-the-Music program aims to foster music appreciation to those in our community who may not otherwise have the opportunity.  The Johnstown Symphony Orchestra initiated the Share-the-Music program in the fall of 2012 as a new education and outreach initiative.  The program encompasses two goals:

1.To allow corporations who sponsor concerts but are unable to use JSO tickets to donate them back to the JSO.  The JSO then distributes the tickets to social service agencies.

2.To give individuals the opportunity to donate money to purchase tickets for the program or donate instruments to be used for education and outreach programming.

The current partnership between the JSO, Goodwill Industries of the Conemaugh Valley (GICV), and Christ Centered Community Church (CCCC), focuses on the second goal of the Share-the-Music program; instrument donation and music instruction for youth.  GICV is a community-based member organization of Goodwill Industries International.  Goodwill GoodguidesTM, a long-standing GICV program partnered with CCCC in 2010 to provide adult mentors the ability to positively influence youth in the Laurel Highlands Community.

A high-priority objective of the partnership is to combine community resources to train children to become future musicians, and inspire them to tap into a new dimension of creativity and imagination that will improve their academic achievement.

This program allows children who may not have an opportunity or resources available to have free or low cost music lessons.  This opportunity is open to all children in the Johnstown region.
