The JSO Community Strings gathered for its first rehearsal of the season, bringing together adult string players from across the region for an evening of music-making, learning, and connection.
Community Strings offers a welcoming space for adult musicians of varied experience levels to play together in an ensemble setting. Under the guidance of its director, participants build their skills, learn from one another, and enjoy the shared experience of making music as a group.
Founded in 2009 with the support of the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, Community Strings continues to provide a meaningful outlet for adult string players who want to grow musically while connecting with others who share their love of music.
We are excited to welcome this dedicated group back for another season of rehearsals and performances.

Halloween @ the Symphony
Step into a world of magic and mystery as the symphony brings the music of Harry Potter to life alongside Mussorgsky's thrilling Night on Bald Mountain. The evening crescendos with Brahms' monumental Piano Concerto No. 1, performed by soloist David Kaplan, making this a night of spellbinding music.
Young Peoples Education Concerts
Designed and presented by the JSO, these engaging free educational performances introduce students to the excitement of a live symphony orchestra through accessible music, interactive elements, connections to classroom learning, and special side-by-side performances featuring members of the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra and the Johnstown Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Honoring our Veterans
Join us for a special evening of music, remembrance, and gratitude as the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra honors our veterans, active-duty military members, and the families who stand beside them.
Anchored by the soaring emotion of John Williams’s Hymn to the Fallen from Saving Private Ryan, the program reflects courage, service, sacrifice, and the commitment of those who have worn our nation’s uniform. JSO Concertmaster Maureen Conlon Gutierrez takes center stage in Lalo’s sweeping work for solo violin, and Beethoven’s exhilarating Symphony No. 7 brings the evening to a stirring close.
Honoring Our Veterans invites veterans, service members, military families, and our entire community to come together for an evening of recognition, reflection, and a heartfelt thank you to those who have served our nation.
Community Strings Fall Concert

Community Strings brings together musicians from throughout the region who share a love of making music and performing together. Enjoy an evening of live music in a welcoming, relaxed setting and support the talented community musicians who make this ensemble so special.

Holiday Pops!
It’s the most wonderful time of year at the JSO as the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra joins with the Johnstown Symphony Chorus under the direction of Jeffrey L. Webb and the spirited voices of Inclined to Sing under the direction of Emily Stumpo for a festive celebration of the season.
From the traditional holiday music you know and love to fresh arrangements and new musical surprises, this concert brings together everything that makes the season special. Sing along to familiar favorites, discover something new, and experience the full sound of orchestra and voices filling the hall.
Whether Holiday Pops is already part of your family’s tradition or you’re joining us for the first time, come celebrate the season with the JSO. Choose from two concert times: 3:00 p.m. or 7:30 p.m.
Date night @ the Symphony
Falling on Valentine’s Day and Super Bowl Sunday weekend, Date Night @ the Symphony brings together two things people love in a big way: romance and sports! Experience sweeping love themes from the silver screen alongside the unmistakable energy of favorite sports anthems, from music that has accompanied some of cinema’s most memorable love stories to the sounds that make stadiums come alive.
Celebrate with someone special, gather your friends or your Fantasy Sports League for a fun night out where movies, sports, romance, and the symphony all share the stage.
Family Concert Matinee
With all tickets just $15, this special stand-alone concert is designed to be accessible for families, schools, youth organizations, and larger groups!
Bring the whole family for an afternoon of music, imagination, and discovery as the playful Carnival of the Animals and music from Frozen and Pirates of the Caribbean bring the orchestra to life for audiences of every age.
Jeff Webb guides young listeners through the different instruments and sections of the symphony in Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, making this a fun, welcoming first concert experience for children and families.
Please note, this concert is not part of or included in Season Subscription packages to allow us to welcome as many families, schools, youth organizations, and larger groups as possible.
Symphony in Color
Close out the season in spectacular fashion as the orchestra paints in sound with Debussy's shimmering seascape La Mer, the vivid colors of Stacy Garrop's Chroma, and the prayerful expressivity of Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms. The Johnstown Symphony Chorus joins the stage for a triumphant finale that celebrates the full power and palette of the orchestral art form!

Somerset County America 250 Celebration
The Johnstown Symphony Orchestra is honored to participate in the Somerset County 25/250 Celebration, taking place Wednesday, August 5, through Sunday, August 9!
This five-day celebration will commemorate America’s 250th anniversary and the 25th anniversary of the events of September 11 and Flight 93. The week will bring together community organizations, first responders, musicians, volunteers, and residents for remembrance, patriotism, and community celebration.
Activities will include musical performances, remembrance ceremonies, family activities, historical exhibits, a firefighters’ parade, a drone show, fireworks, and more.

4th of July with the Brass Ensemble
Join us on Saturday, July 4th, for a parade through Ebensburg ending with a ceremony at Veteran’s Memorial Park to celebrate America's 250th Anniversary!
The ceremony will include musical performances by the JSO Brass Ensemble, remarks from local officials, two commissioned artwork displays of the Cambria County Liberty Bell and Cambria County Torch, as well as readings by the America 250 PA Essay Contest winners.

Memorial Day JSO Chorus Performance
The Grandview Cemetery provides a meaningful and reflective setting for this special Memorial Day performance by the Johnstown Symphony Chorus.
Join the chorus as they honor and remember those who have served our country through a moving program of patriotic and inspirational music. This outdoor performance offers a moment of community, gratitude, and remembrance, bringing voices together in tribute on this important day.
This event is free and open to the public. The chorus performance will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.
Community Strings: Spring Concert
Join us for the Community Strings Spring Concert, a joyful celebration of music-making featuring a wonderful group of dedicated musicians from across our region. Under the direction of Beth Pile, Community Strings brings together players of all ages and experience levels to share the power of ensemble music.

Fashion Show: Johnstown Auxiliary
The Johnstown Symphony Auxiliary invites you to an evening of style, creativity, and community at their annual Fashion Show, one of the most joyful traditions supporting the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra.
We are proud to showcase some of the incredible local boutiques and clothing shops that make our region so special. In addition, this event plays an important role in sustaining the music and educational programs of the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, helping ensure that live orchestral music continues to thrive in our community.

Johnstown Symphony Youth Orchestra: Spring Concert
Celebrate the next generation of musicians as the Johnstown Symphony Youth Orchestra takes the stage for its Spring Concert at the Arcadia Theater under the baton of Director David Anderson. This lively performance showcases the dedication, growth, and talent of our young performers as they share a program full of energy and musical discovery. Join us for an affordable, family friendly afternoon of music and support these remarkable young musicians as they shine on stage.

Carmina Burana
The Johnstown Symphony Orchestra closes its season with one of the most thrilling and powerful works ever written for orchestra and chorus: Carmina Burana by Carl Orff.
From the electrifying opening of “O Fortuna” to its unforgettable final moments, Carmina Burana is a musical spectacle that must be experienced live. Driven by pounding rhythms, soaring voices, and dramatic intensity, Orff’s masterpiece explores the timeless themes of fate, fortune, love, and the joy of life.
For this extraordinary season finale, more than 100 voices of the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra Chorus, under the direction of Jeffrey Webb, will join the orchestra on stage. They will be joined by Johnstown native soprano Nicole Khouzami, tenor Shawn Roth, and bass Christopher Herbert, along with singers from the Frostburg State University Choir and the University of Pittsburgh–Johnstown Choir, creating a powerful wall of sound that will fill the hall.

Rehearsals are relaxed and encouraging, with no audition required. Whether you’re returning to your instrument after time away or looking for a creative outlet alongside fellow musicians, Community Strings is a wonderful way to stay musically active and engaged in the community.
Community Strings is a companion ensemble of the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra and performs at community events throughout the region.

America @ 250 Part II: Copland 3
Our celebration of America’s 250th anniversary continues with a powerful program honoring the nation’s spirit and history. The JSO performs Adolphus Hailstork’s Epitaph for a Man Who Dreamed, a moving tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., alongside a newly co-commissioned work by Caroline Mallonee in partnership with the New York Philharmonic. The evening culminates in Copland’s Symphony No. 3, written in the wake of World War II, with a triumphant finale that elevates his Fanfare for the Common Man to breathtaking new heights. Don’t miss this stirring celebration of American music and resilience!

Johnstown's Got Talent
The evening kicks off with the 19-member group Jazz In Your Face, featuring the Johnstown Symphony Youth Orchestra musicians who bring the energy and spirit of jazz to the stage. In the second half, Johnstown’s Got Talent takes center stage, one of our most popular concert experiences, presented only once every few years. This year, 11 remarkable local artists were selected through a competitive audition process and given the rare opportunity to live out a lifelong dream by performing on stage with the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra.
Rooted in our season 97 theme, Musical Roots, this concert celebrates the musical heart of Johnstown itself. It highlights the neighbors, students, educators, and community members whose love of music shapes our region. From jazz to classical and beyond, this is a powerful tribute to where our music comes from and why it matters. Don’t miss this unforgettable night of community, connection, and shared musical pride!

Spring Semester Begins: Inclined to Sing
Inclined to Sing is now welcoming new singers for the spring semester. Open to children who love to sing, this choir provides a joyful, encouraging environment where young voices grow in confidence, musicianship, and teamwork.
Rehearsals focus on developing vocal skills, musical literacy, and a love of singing through engaging repertoire and a supportive rehearsal atmosphere. No prior choir experience is required—just curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to sing.
Inclined to Sing is a companion ensemble of the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra and regularly performs in concerts and community events throughout the region.

Inclined to Sing: Tomahawks Game National Anthem
On Friday, January 30, 2026, Inclined to Sing, the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra’s children’s chorus, will perform the National Anthem at the Johnstown Tomahawks game at 1ST SUMMIT ARENA. Arrive early to enjoy this special performance before the puck drops!

Held at Bottleworks, this special event brings together fitness, music, and community. Best of all, 100 percent of the proceeds benefit the Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, directly supporting local musicians and arts programming. Please bring your own mat.

Community Strings performs at The Russel House
Join us for an intimate performance at The Russell House, a beautifully restored Classical Revival–style home in the heart of the historic Moxham neighborhood. Built in 1902 by architect Walter R. Myton for coal executive John Albert Grazier, the house now serves as a community gathering space operated by Moxham Renaissance, welcoming neighbors and visitors for concerts, celebrations, and special events. On December 14th at 3:00pm, our Community Strings ensemble will fill the Great Room with music, surrounded by the house’s original woodwork, stained glass, and wraparound porch charm. This cozy setting offers audiences a chance to experience symphonic music up close, with limited seating and a warm, neighborhood feel.

Community Carol Jam at Dickens of a Christmas
Join us for one of our favorite traditions of the season: Ebensburg’s Dickens of a Christmas and the JSO’s Community Carol Jam!
From 6:30pm to 7:30pm, our JSO Community Strings Ensemble will perform, sharing a festive selection of holiday favorites to set the tone for the evening.
At 7:30pm, we’ll transition into the Community Carol Jam, an open, welcoming sing-and-play-along where the entire community is invited to participate. Whether you’re a seasoned musician, a caroler, or someone who simply loves the magic of holiday music, all are welcome. No experience is required, just bring your instrument or your voice and your holiday cheer.
Warm, family-friendly, free and open to all, the Community Carol Jam is a beautiful reminder that music has the power to bring people together. We hope you’ll join us on December 5 as we fill the courthouse with the sounds of the season.
Bach & Charlie Parker
The Johnstown Symphony Orchestra returns to the stunning Grand Halle for an unforgettable evening of music that blends the elegance of the Baroque with the soul of jazz. The program features Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 132, Mvt. III , Handel’s luminous Passacaglia in G for Strings, and Bach’s towering Chaconne, performed by JSO Concertmaster Maureen Conlon Gutierrez as soloist.
The evening also highlights Maestro James Blachly’s earliest orchestral composition, Passacaglia, and closes with selections from Charlie Parker with Strings, one of the most influential jazz albums of all time, featuring Johnstown’s own Daniel Hutton on saxophone.
